The Association of Fleece Characters and Susceptibility to Dermatophilosis
نویسندگان
چکیده
The association of fleece characters with susceptibility to dermatophilosis was studied in two flocks located on the south coast of Western Australia. The characters examined were wax content, suint content, wax to suint ratio, suint pH, yield, fleece wettability, fibre diameter, coefficient of fibre diameter variation, suint direct extract, direct extract pH and electrical conductivity. The results showed that wax to suint ratio was the only fleece character significantly (P < 0.05) different in both flocks for sheep with dermatophilosis as compared to sheep without dermatophilosis (flock 1:2.0 v 2.7; flock 2:1.4 v 1.8). These differences were markedly influenced by the wax content (13.5 v 16.6%, P < 0.01) in flock 1 and the suint content (9.7 v 8.18, < 0.05) in flock 2. Both the electrical conductivity (1.30 v 0.91 siemens/cm, P < 0.01) and suint content of the direct extract (8.2 v 6.4%, P < 0.05) were significantly greater in sheep with dermatophilosis than in sheep without dermatophilosis for flock 1. The remaining fleece characters measured were not significantly different for both flocks.

Ultimate Disease Resistance in Sheep: What Are the Relationships between All Major Diseases?
A study is described which is unique in that resistance to each of the major diseases which affect production in Merino sheep was measured in the same flock under the same environmental conditions. Results indicated that within the one flock, genetic variation exists for resistance to internal parasites, foot-rot, fleece rot and dermatophilosis. Heritability estimates were similar to those publ...
متن کاملPolymorphism of the Growth Hormone Gene and Its Effect on Production and Reproduction Traits in Goat
Growth hormone (GH) has an effect on a broad variety of physiological parameters such as lactation, reproduction, growth and metabolism. Thus, the aim of this study was to detect GH gene polymorphism and its association with breeding values of production and reproduction traits in Raini Cashmere goat. Breeding values were estimated using records on 26731 Raini Cashmere goats. To study GH gene p...

This study was conducted to investigate the hair production and fleece characteristics of hairy goats according to the sex and age of animals. The material of the study consisted one total data of 73 hair goats, which were between more than one year-old and one year-old Lori goats from both sexes (26 males and 47 females). The overall fleece weight, fiber length, lock length, washing yield, hai...
متن کاملImmunization of Sheep with Phage Mimotopes against Dermatophilosis
Random peptide libraries (RPL) displayed on the surface of filamentous bacteriophages have been extensively used as a tool to map epitopes or to identify antigenic mimics (mimotpoes) of disease-specific monoclonal antibodies or polyclonal sera. These RPL are engineered by the insertion of degenerate oligonucleotides, encoding a specific number of random amino acids, in frame with a bacteriophag...
متن کاملInbreeding and Its Effects on Body Weight,Kleiber Ratio, Body Measurements, Greasy Fleece Weight and Reproductive Traits of Makooei Sheep Breed
A pedigree file consisting of 5860 individuals, 167 sires and 1582 dams collected at Makooei sheep breeding station (MSBS) during a period of 24 years (1990 to 2013) was used to calculate the inbreeding coefficients to reveal any probable effects of inbreeding (F) on the studied traits. The studied traits were classified to the five main groups including body weight, Kleiber ratio, body measure...
